Committees
Members are encouraged to take an active role in our chapter in order to advance themselves professionally and personally. Committee chairs are appointed annually from the general membership at the beginning of each FAWL year. Committee members can be added throughout the year. If you are interested in joining a committee, please contact the director or committee chair for your chosen committee.
PROGRAMMING COMMITTEE: The Programming Committee works with Programming Director to develop programming. At least one member from the General Membership is needed. Programming Director -Amanda Romfh
SPONSORSHIP COMMITTEE: The Sponsorship Committee works with the Sponsorship Director to develop sponsors for FAWL. At least one member from the General Membership is needed. Sponsorship Directors - Georgia Newman and Jill Weiss
OUTREACH COMMITTEE: The Outreach Committee works with the Outreach Director to develop social and philanthropic events for our members. In addition, the Outreach Committee will assist the Director with welcoming new members and act as the membership liaison between the chapter as a whole and individual members. At least one member from the General Membership is needed. Outreach Director -Alexcia Cox
PROBONO COMMITTEE: This Committee is responsible for coordinating with Pro Bono Department of the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County to introduce pro bono cases to our membership at our monthly meetings. FAWL endeavors to adopt at least one pro bono case per month by a member as part of our Adopt-A-Case project. FAWL has been awarded in the past by Legal Aid for this involvement. COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMITTEE: This committee is responsible for developing volunteer projects for our members who wish to get involved with the local community. This committee will continue to participate in the Race for the Cure and will possibly expand into projects with Habitat for Humanity. In addition, this committee plans to partner up with a Palm Beach County domestic violence shelter to assist abused women in protecting their rights and reclaiming their lives. At least five additional members of the General Membership are needed. Committee Chair - Amber McMichael
NEWSLETTER/PUBLICITY COMMITTEE: This committee is responsible for creating a quarterly email newsletter sent to the membership. The Newsletter highlights various members, events and interesting things happening in the business and personal lives of our members. In addition, this committee ensures we have photographers at our events, collects the photos and coordinates with the FAWL administrator to send out Press Releases. At least two members of the General Membership are needed. Committee Chairs - Rebecca Frieden and Nicole Hessen
WORKING PARENTS COMMITTEE: This committee is responsible for coordinating our special event lunch in April with the Programming Director and planning other working parent/child activities through out the year so as to support working mothers (and fathers) in the legal community. At least two members of the General Membership are needed. Committee Chairs - Jennifer Rabin and Sarah Shullman
PACE BOOK CLUB: This committee is responsible for maintaining our State recognized (and adopted) program with PACE Center for Girls. The chair is responsible for coordinating a regularly recurring date and time for the program. The chair coordinates with the General Membership to have members attend meetings where we interact with the students in discussing the book chosen for that meeting. This is a very rewarding committee. We are looking for at least 6 members from the General Membership to particpate on this committee. Committee Chair - Esther LaBovick
MENTORING COMMITTEE: This committee will provide small group and one-on-one settings to help women excel in the practice of law. The committee will draw on the experiences of those who have gone before us to promote the advancement of women in the law with personal and professional satisfaction. Small group lunch meetings with featured speakers will be offered. The committee will also recruit attorneys who will make themselves available to mentor attorneys with less experience. JUDICIAL RECEPTION COMMITTEE: This committee is responsible for planning and carrying out FAWL's Annual Judicial Reception. From venue, contract, menu to the invitation. This committee works closely with the Board, and generally attends Board meetings throughout the Fall. Committee Chair - Heidi Reiff
PAST PRESIDENTS ADVISORY COUNCIL Palm Beach County FAWL through its Past Presidents Advisory Council, is presenting an afternoon program entitled the Road to the Bench/Road to the JNC on January 19th at the Palm Beach Airport Hilton co-sponsored by the Palm Beach County Bar, the Cunningham Bar and the Hispanic Bar Associations. FAWL received a Diversity Grant from the Bar for this half day program in the afternoon from 2-5, beginning with keynote speaker, President-elect of the Florida Bar Gwynne Young and then two breakout sessions, one for those interested in the JNC and one for those interested in the Bench, both running for a judicial seat and being appointed, with panel discussions for each. Deputy General Counsel for Governor Rick Scott as well as members of our very own Board of Governors, members of the judiciary and members of the JNC have been confirmed.
