”You may never have proof of your importance but you are more important than you think.  There are always those who couldn’t do without you.  The rub is that you don’t always know who.” Robert Fulghum, All I Really Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten.  Although this quote seems incredibly simple, it has a deeper message for all of us.  A message that we should take to heart and utilize in our daily interactions.  We often don’t realize the impact we have on each other.  In the fast paced, high tech society we now thrive in, many of us have forgotten the basics of what it takes to actually connect.  We need to get back to the basics and get back to connecting.  Most of us immediately think the definition of “connecting” pertains to social media.     But really, it is the simplicity of human interactions that can make all the difference.  We can use technology to our advantage and connect in a positive way but not ignore the human interaction component that initially brought so many of into the practice of law. Every person has something to offer whether it is advice, a spirited discussion or simply a smile.  We need to start taking advantage of the best asset we have, and remember how good it feels to truly connect.

Get out from behind the computer, put down your smart phone and get involved in the legal and social community.  Membership in the Florida Association for Women Lawyers (FAWL) is just the beginning.  Becoming an active member in FAWL and other local bar organizations is important both professionally and personally, and helps us to be more balanced individuals.  Not only does involvement in a legal organization expand business and networking opportunities, but it will help to expand your personal network as well.  Use the opportunity to mentor young lawyers or learn from those seasoned lawyers who have so much advice to offer.

FAWL has seen many changes over the years.  Each year we build on the many successful programs set in place by leaders in our community, accumulating over 30 years of making a difference.  FAWL is an organization that continues to grow and make positive changes in our legal community.  Join me in fostering this growth in the legal profession and within our Palm Beach County community by getting back to the basics and truly connecting.
